Roads are for People: Designing an Austin Life with More Happiness and Less Car
Air quality, obesity, asthma, stress levels, infrastructure: they're all exasperated by that essential American icon, the car. Traffic congestion in Austin is #1 in the state, and#14 in the nation.
But it doesn't have to be this way. Twice I've lived in Austin for months straight without a car, and it's easier (and more fun) than you'd expect.
With a half-dozen alternative services in our early-adopter city, it's only getting easier to start leaving your car at home and reclaiming Austin roads for people, no matter how we get around.
Join our participatory workshop (based in part on Fjord's Mobility Mindsets and 2019 design trend "Ahead of the Curb") where you’ll investigate, price, and design your own car-free Austin trips, reducing stress, expenses, and pollution.
After factoring in cost, time, physical ability, personal life, and more, you’ll depart with a realistic assessment of possible changes to your “transportation diet”, and the resulting impacts on spending, carbon footprint, and personal health.
