Matt Michalak, Assoc. AIA, is a Technical Designer at Gensler, a global architecture and interior design firm dedicated to creating a better world through the power of design. His day to day work is rooted in caring for and expanding the life giving qualities of urban environments by designing resilient buildings and public spaces that help provide opportunities of upward mobility for everyone.

Matt is a leader within Gensler’s Mixed Use Practice Area focusing on residential, commercial and retail projects, such as The Grove in North Austin, a legacy-quality mixed use neighborhood and model for innovative urban infill development. Within the Austin design community, he is member of AIA Austin and a Leadership Collective graduate.

Matt is passionate about making the architecture field a more diverse and inclusive profession. He is inspired by his friends and colleagues demanding change to systems and structures impacting marginalized communities. Moving forward, he wants to use his knowledge to help create citizen-powered projects to inform large planning decisions.
