The fifth annual Austin Design Week kicks off tomorrow, Monday November 9th! We can’t wait for you to join us for the fun week of events.
One of the best parts about ADW is the incredible community that comes together to have important conversations around design and learn from one another.
To help you make the most of your experience and connect with the community during this mostly virtual festival, we want to share a few ways you can engage with one another throughout the week.
Community Slack
We may not have an in-person hub for this year’s festivities, but there’s still a way to connect with fellow attendees and hosts in between sessions: Slack! ADW has its very own Slack which you can join if you haven’t already. We encourage you to introduce yourself in the #community channel and use the channel throughout the week to share what events you're heading to, recap what you learn, and keep the conversation going after the events. You can also use the #adw20_helpdesk channel to ask your questions.
Zoom backgrounds
Because most of this year’s sessions will take place in a digital format, we wanted to make sure every event is still a special experience which is why you’ll find ADW-themed Zoom backgrounds in your attendee package. We encourage you to have fun with a Zoom background and show your ADW spirit! Each speaker and volunteer will also have one so you can easily identify who to turn to for questions or comments during the session.
Get social
With the number of important conversations we’ll be having throughout the week, you’re bound to have a few takeaways that you want to share. Share what you’re inspired by, what you learn, and anything else ADW-related by using the hashtags #ADW20 and #Embrace_______ (we encourage you to fill in the blank!) and finding us on social. In the attendee package, you'll also find pre-filled Embrace ______ images that you can share on social media!

Our theme this year is about exploring the ambiguity that comes with change — discovering together what we can embrace. If you pop over to the Austin Design Week homepage, you can answer the question at the center of this year’s theme: What do you embrace? We invite you to add your voice to this community conversation. Share what you’re embracing and discover what others are embracing in times of change.
