Top Picks From #DesignWeLove: Pt. 2

#DesignWeLove is a trending hashtag on our Instagram page, where we share the most creative Austin designers as well as snippets of inspiring art that we come across. In my most recent post, I shared some architecture and interior design, a ginormous sculpture, an example of product design, and of course, decorated cookies.

This week (yup, you guessed it), I’m doin’ it again and showing you my personal favorites from ADW’s recent Instagram posts. Let’s take a look:

Typography and Lettering by Mint & Maple

I’ll admit that I have awful handwriting, which is why I confidently choose to only type on my laptop. Design company Mint & Maple, on the other hand, does not have awful handwriting, in fact, they specialize in beautiful typography and lettering. They are one of my top picks, not only because I envy their artistic skills, but because they are true professionals in such a niche craft that many people, like myself, can greatly appreciate. Also, have you seen a video of typography in the works?? It’s mesmerizing.

If you’re like me, and want to perfect your lettering and handwriting skills, sign up for a workshop with them!

Plant Dyed Apparel by Miranda Bennett Studio

The Miranda Bennett Studio is creating super trendy, yet simple, ethical apparel that matches Austin’s hip vibes. What’s so unique about this all-women ran brand, is that all of clothing is plant dyed right here in the USA by local artisans and seamstresses. This post shows off a dress from their Edition VIII Collection. If you like what you see, you can shop their line here.

Art and Design by LAND

If you haven’t heard of LAND you’re missin’ out. Two American artists and designers, Caleb Owen Everitt and Ryan Rhodes, joined forces to establish a brilliant design firm that works with big name clients like Nike, Patagonia, and Levi’s. You might remember their illustrations on the windows of Weather Up.

Their one-of-a-kind art and typography is what makes their work one of my favorite #DesignWeLove posts. They perfectly incorporate abstract and minimalistic art using unique materials, including clothing, canvases, wall murals, and ceramics. If you want to get your hands on some of their pieces, check out their website.

In this #DesignWeLove post, Austin Design Week highlights Austin designer Katie Kime’s talents specific to interior design. However, Katie’s love for art, prints, and travel show through in her awe-inspiring fashion design and monogramming as well. Her eye for design and creativity successfully results in beautiful masterpieces that can be worn on your wall or on your body. Check out all of her vibrant and playful creations, and shop it here.

Event and Floral Design by House of Margot Blair

The creative women working diligently over at House of Margot Blaire earned a household name in wedding planning and floral design. Their sharp eye for color and design is transformed into wonderfully colorful creations that are truly remarkable to look at-- in fact, I’ve been scrolling and scrolling through their website, amazed by endless floral arrangements and decorations.

Owner and Creative Director Carly Blair is even helping those affected Hurricane Harvey. She encourages you to repost the picture taken from their Instagram and share what you are doing to relieve efforts in Houston with the hashtag #weseeyoutexas. Carly Blair shares:

“Please, let's all extend a hand to a loved one, a friend, a neighbor, a stranger - anyone in need of help."

Myself, including Austin’s creative community ultimately aims for our art, design, and inspiration to help heal and relieve pain caused from troubling disasters and devastations. From our community to Houston’s, our thoughts are with you.
